An Essex doctor is now heading back to her patients at Southend Hospital after competing in the Winter Olympics in Beijing.
24 year old Dr. Elsa Desmond was the first Irish athlete to compete in the games and was given the honour of carrying the flag at the opening ceremony.
Dr Desmond, competed in the luge and after hurtling down the track and breath taking speeds, the first-time Olympian ended up in 33rd position.
Speaking after competition she said: "I finished three runs, and I couldn't be happier. I've dreamed of this as long as I can remember"
