Braintree Christmas Lights 2021

From the annual Christmas light switch on to street markets, a free gingerbread trail and children’s rides and craft activities, there’s lots going on in Braintree this festive season.

We'll be joined by Radio Essex presenters Martin and Su and special guests to celebrate the start of Christmas and switch on the Braintree Christmas lights from 12noon, including festive family fun entertainment and performances from local upcoming singers and school choirs.

Two light switch ons will take place throughout the town on the day:
George Yard Shopping Centre - 5pm
Main town centre in Market Place (outside Tesco) - 5.30pm, with the lights being switched on by BMX Olympic star Beth Shriever.

Whilst the entertainment is going on from 12:00pm until 5:30pm, you’ll be able to browse our biggest Christmas street market with over 50 stalls across the whole town centre! You’ll be able to browse and shop everything from gourmet food, drinks, gifts, Christmas décor, homeware, jewellery and more. You can view the full list of what stalls will be there on the day on their website. 
Live music and entertainment will take place down the Fountain end of the High Street from 1pm-6pm organised by The Boars Head, subject to acceptance of a road closure.  

Lots of other activities will be taking place, including:
- FREE entry to Braintree Museum with their space exhibition and Christmas décor crafts
- Drinks bar, Christmas children activities and family photo shoots at Braintree Town Hall
- Festive entertainment and a chance to meet festive characters in George Yard Shopping Centre
- Live music and entertainment down the Fountain end of the High Street from 1pm-6pm organised by The Boars Head, subject to acceptance of a road closure.  

Visitors are encouraged to follow all of the latest government COVID-19 guidance when visiting the event. Event staff will be on hand at the event to help, assist and support visitors and market traders will have COVID-19 measures in place.

Braintree is the place to be this Christmas. We hope to see you there!
